About Kristen
Kristen Weiss is a photographer, writer and ecologist, with a background in environmental science, marketing, and communications. As a trained science communicator, Kristen honed her photography and videography skills over the past two decades, and uncovered her passion for documentary and event photography. Kristen also loves photographing animals, both domestic and wild.
She has provided photography and communications services for the Community Environmental Council, Santa Barbara Earth Day Festival, the Long Term Ecological Research Network, Stanford University’s Center for Ocean Solutions, and more.
Kristen received her PhD from James Cook University in Queensland, Australia, where she studied wildlife conservation and management, and worked with Torres Strait Islander Indigenous communities to make films about their ocean conservation practices based on Traditional Ecological Knowledge. These days, she enjoys traveling and exploring (with camera in hand) the rich natural and cultural diversity of the American Southwest and beyond — in the Fall of 2023 she will complete a cross-country road trip complete with photography pop up sessions along the way.
In her free time she enjoys adventures with her tiny dog Buttercup–hiking, zooming on the beach, napping in the sun, and taking road trips. She looks forward to meeting many new wonderful people throughout her journey, and perhaps snapping a few pics of them along the way.
